So I got the calling that I have always wanted, Primary Chorister!! I have been in there for 2 weeks now and have found that it is a lot more difficult than it looks. Although I have a blast in there I'm struggling with how to teach the words to the kids and make it fun. Not only that but you almost need 2 different lesson plans each week so that it's not way over the little kids head or way boring for the older kids. Do you have any fun activity or teaching ideas that could possibly help me out. I would love all the ideas I can get. Thanks!
Also, my mom just got called to be the enrichment leader. She is struggling with this because she views herself as the least crafty person in the world. She needs ideas on some awesome Enrichments. If you know my mom, if she does something it has to be great. So she is struggling because she wants to make sure what she does is wonderful and would appreciate any ideas on this also. Thanks for your help, fellow blogging buddies! I always get such great suggestions from you and know where I can turn if I ever need help! Thanks!!!

Regarding your mom's position, that is my ideal job... There is a blog out there that I love to look at: http://projectdomestication.blogspot.com/. It gives ideas for in-home stuff and beautiful baking tips. That's a fun and crafty enrichment. Also, Ashlee (http://ashleecrosby.blogspot.com/) is the current Enrichment leader in her ward. She might be able to give your mom some tips. And, for the one of the enrichments I recently helped with in my ward was themed: My Favorite Things. We did the Oprah idea where she gives out all of her favorite things to the audience. Except, we did it on a much smaller scale. Everyone that comes, brings their favorite thing (under $10) to share, picks a name out of hat after describing it and then shares with the person they picked. Then, we had about 6 people speak about their favorite things, tying in scriptures. For the opening song, we sang the Sound of Music My Favorite Things song. Anyway, there's a couple of enrichment ideas....good luck on teaching kids to sing!
Traci this is my calling and it is harder than is looks huh? I have learned that you just have to over prepare and with the 2 lesson thing just take the lesson for the younger and make it harder. My older kids love to fish, but we do it blindfolded.
On my blog there is a list of sites I go to often to help me with this calling. www.sugardoodle.net is the BEST.
Some ideas
My older kids really like to play hide the clip ( a small but bright caribeanner)? We sing as if we are the holy ghost so we sing loud and then as they get to it we go softer. They also love to play follow the me.. so I lead short small loud soft, forget to cut them off.. Your pianist has to be very good though.
And they always love a challenge game.
Younger kids LOVE pictures and sign language! They like to make up their own signs for parts of the song. They like to MOVE Move MOVE..and anything hands on .. like the magic water!
Email me and let me know how it goes and if you need any ideas. With my older kids this month with the baptism song we did the lines on strips of paper with magnets. WE would take off strips as we go and they have to still sing or hum the words that is how I know how well they know the song.
The little kids I am teaching the rainbow technique on Sugardoodle website. and using flipcharts that they kids help hold up.
I wish you the best! It really can be exhausting but it is fun and music is the BEST way to learn the gospel for kids and some adults.
OK so mamma Hatch
I am sure she will do great. Enrichment is NOT all about crafts and baking though. Some fun things we have been doing are.. a food storage ER preparedness night, this is where we are told what to get for food storage that month and we learn something that is useful like car maintenance, how to shut off the gas and water, grocery budget shopping...
Of course we have the ole humanitarian day and such but we have many different clubs, scrapbook, book club, game night, sewing club, recipe swap...
WE just had an awesome retreat where we pampered ourselves and made all the stuff to do it, lotions, milk baths, facials, food scrubs.. THAt was heavenly and I HAVe all the recipes.
Tell your mom to check out that website too its for any part of the church, RS YW and Primary
Let me know how it goes
AND CONGRATS to you BOTH!
Hey Traci! I heard the best idea the other day. In honor of the Olympics, after you teach a new song have the kids sing it and then rate them with either a bronze, silver, or gold medal (just have the presidency hold up cut outs). Have them sing it again and again until they get gold.
I am at a loss with the primary thing. I did see my ward do a cute thing about a month ago. They had a member of the Bishopric come in and he was wearing his "favorite tie." Actually it was a tie that they gave him to put on. He told the kids that if they sing their songs really good and remember all of the words, then he would pick a kid to come cut a piece of his tie off until it was all gone. You could hear the kids through the whole building and they thought it was so funny. He would act upset that they were cutting his tie and the kids were having so much fun. Except for AnnaBelle, she was sobbing because she felt bad that they were cutting his favorite tie.
I am the Enrichment Coordinator in our ward and I have tons of ideas. Let your mom know that I would love to help her out!
