Traci is really great at blogging. Me, not so much. Anyway I would like any input that any of you might have. As many of you know, for the last 5 years i have been a carpet salesman. Not quite the career that I grew up dreaming of but i really do enjoy it. However I don't think I am in the place i would like to be in life yet.
This summer and last I had the opportunity to direct "Seussical Jr." and "Once on this Island Jr." for the Lehi Arts Council. It was awesome feeling to see the kids really find the joy of entertaining. They all did an incredible job that they and their parents were proud of. One of the best feelings ever.
This has led me to think that being a High School Drama Teacher would be a great career path. However, I would also love to teach elementary and maybe teach workshops on the side like i do now. I have been thinking about this for quite sometime and haven't gotten far. Maybe I am going in completely the wrong direction altogether. At any rate i have realized that i need to be somewhere that i can use my creativity and teach. Sometimes i think that i drive my wife nuts and get a little bit too goofy for her.
Please list any comments, suggestions or advice that you think might help.
Thanks

that is a really hard question. something i have been struggling with for a long time.
ive been a computer guys since high school. but thats not really what i want to do either. i have a ton of ideas but most of them would be impossible for me because i really dont want to go to school for a million years.. or at all really.
anyway.. its good to try new things and be involved with as much as you can so you can get as much of a taste as possible.
im probably going to end up doing something with computers (not sure what.. hopefully something more fun that what i do now) and doing home theater stuff on the side.
Good luck Senior Esmith
I think teaching is definitely your calling in life! You have a natural charisma that the kids are drawn to. Will the company you work for pay for you to go to school? Can you work and go to school at night or something? Noah decided he wanted to be a detective the other day. Oh great! He loves what he does but with the economy the way it is....you never know what's next. I think it's really important to love what you do!
You would be an awesome teacher, just stay out of Jr. high's for your own sanity. This whole what am I going to be when I grow up thing is a lot harder than it seems.
teaching. that is what I want to do. I can tell you have that feeling. That is what I had about 2.5 years ago. I just knew that I should teach. So I quit being a FedEx Ground driver to go back to school.
Good luck in whatever you do. Bob, you were always an inspiration to me as a person.
I agree with ash and robyn you are great with any age of people, especially kids. I think you would be a great teacher. It's ALOT of work, especially after hours, and its not the best pay unless you stick to it like Jims Dad. This is his last year and that will be good. I also believe you have to love what you do life is too short not to.. Good LUck!
Hi Robert and Traci,
I am glad to see that you guys have a blog! Your kids are darling and it was so fun to see them and you the other night.
I personally think that Robert, you are a great carpet salesman!! I think you would be a good teacher though, you seem like you would be great with kids. You have so much talent you could really do anything you want to!
We are excited for our Christmas tree raising!
Bob,
I keep telling my husband that he has to do what he wants in his life, and if that means we have to sacrafice... then we'll do it!
As for elementary or high school drama... there are a couple options to help you decide:
1) Go through the substitute teaching program through Alpine School District & Take jobs teaching both! It might help you decide what you'd prefer teaching.
2) Go back to school... and start with the courses that cross over for both elementary ed. & secondary ed. Then when you decide what you want... your time won't be wasted.Just do it!
I remember you talking about wanting to be a teaching back in high school- DO IT!
Good luck with you decision!
I totally would send my kid(s) to you as a teacher. I think you would be fun, enthusiastic, educational and most importantly UNBIASED. I always hated it when teachers (that will remain unnamed) were biased for particular students. You seriously have a knack for that sort of thing. Good luck Mr. Smith!
